Service Overview

All Engineering Designs and Construction Implementation should undergo several environmental considerations to ensure the efficiency of the projects, safety of project employees as well as sustainability of the constructed systems. Some of the Environmental considerations handled by Optimum Earth in our day to day projects as well as Environmental services offered to our Clients include:

  1. Water Source Protection:
    • Preparation of Water Source Protection Plans: Water Source Protection Plans (WSPPs) are strategic frameworks designed to safeguard water sources from contamination and overuse. Implementing these plans ensures the long-term sustainability and quality of water supplies.
    • Watershed Management:Implementing measures to protect the watershed from pollution and degradation, including controlling land use, managing agriculture runoff, and preventing deforestation.
    • Groundwater Protection:Safeguarding aquifers from contamination through proper waste disposal practices, managing agricultural chemicals, and preventing over-extraction.
  2. Water and Air Quality Surveillance:
    • Pollution Control:Ensuring that sources of contamination/pollution  (industrial, agricultural, and domestic) are managed and minimized with in the acceptable standards.
    • Treatment Processes:Designing water treatment facilities to remove contaminants effectively and ensure the water meets health and safety standards.
    • Monitoring and Testing:Regularly monitoring air and water quality is crucial in detecting and address any contamination issues promptly.
  3. Ecological Impact:
    • Habitat Preservation:Avoiding or mitigating the impact on local ecosystems, such as wetlands, rivers, and lakes, that could be affected by water extraction and infrastructure development.
    • Biodiversity Conservation:Ensuring that all our engineering works/ project activities do not harm local flora and fauna.
  4. Sustainable Water Use:
    • We carry out detailed Water Resources Availability, Demand and Proposed Water Supply Analysis to promote water conservation and efficient usage practices among consumers to reduce wastage.
    • Implementing sustainable extraction rates that do not exceed the natural replenishment rates of the water sources. We carry out studies on environmental impacts of the proposed abstraction on the surrounding environment and guide them in obtaining Water Abstraction permits in line with the Ministry of Water and Environment Guidelines.
  5. Climate Change Adaptation:
    • Resilience Planning:We Design water supply systems and infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events and changing climate patterns, such as droughts, floods, and rising temperatures.
    • Water Storage:At Optimum Earth we create water storage and utilization solutions to manage variability in water availability and ensure a steady supply during dry periods.
  6. Energy Use and Emissions:
    • Energy Efficiency:Utilizing energy-efficient technologies and practices in the treatment and distribution of water to minimize the carbon footprint.
    • Renewable Energy:Incorporating renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind power, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
  7. Community and Social Impact:
    • Stakeholder Engagement:Involving local communities in our day to day operations is key to planning and decision-making process to address society needs and concerns as well as promoting inclusion and acceptability of the built infrastructure.
  8. Infrastructure Durability and Maintenance:
    • Sustainable Materials:Using environmentally friendly and durable materials in the construction of water supply infrastructure to reduce environmental impact and ensure longevity.
    • Maintenance Plans:Establishing regular maintenance schedules to prevent leaks, contamination, and other issues that could compromise the water supply system.
  9. Legal and Regulatory Compliance:
    • Environmental Regulations:Adhering to local, national, and international environmental laws and regulations governing air quality and water supply quality. We offer services in preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment and Project Briefs for our clients.
    • Permitting and Licensing:Obtaining necessary permits and licenses for water extraction, treatment, and distribution activities for example through the processing of Water Abstraction Permits;
